Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Tom Ehrlich - Cubanismo 2015 Soundcheck

CUBANISMO

YOSHIS OAKLAND, CA

JULY 26, 2015

SOUND CHECK

PHOTOS BY TOM EHRLICH © 2015

Its been quite some time since Cubanismo has toured the US and over 10 years since they performed in the Bay Area. Jesus Alemany brought  a new version of Cubanismo to Yoshis in Oakland, California and the show was completely sold out - literally every seat in the club was taken.

As in the past, Cubanismo was an all star band, which included some people who many of you will remember such as Cristobal Verdecia, the original bass player for Havana D'Primera and formerly with Paulito, Jorge Luis "Papiosco" Torres who played with Klimax and was on many of the Envidia recordings, Antonio "Pachá" Portuondo formerly with Issac Delgado, Pedro Calvo and Afro-Cuban All Stars, Jorge Luis Rojas "Rojitas" who sang with Adelberto Alvarez, his own band and the original version of Cubanismo, and José "Gilito" Piñera, formerly with Afro-Cuban All Stars.

I will proivde a complete list of the band when I post the concert photos.

What follows are some photos from the sound check.
