Cuba's celebrated vocalist and chekere player ELADIO "DON PANCHO" TERRY, the patriarch of the Terry family, will be reunited with his sons, jazz saxophonist YOSVANY TERRY and bassist YUNIOR TERRY in an exclusive NYC performance at Minton's in Harlem on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. The Terry family, joined by other Cuban musicians -- pianist OSMANY PAREDES, percussionist YUSNIER SANCHEZ and flutist JAVIER PORTA -- will present a journey through Cuba's musical history -- from AfroCuban folklore to the charanga dance music of Cuba's "golden age" in the 1940s and '50s, and into contemporary Latin jazz.

The Terry family, from Cuba's culturally diverse Camaguey province, are especially qualified to offer this spectrum of Cuban music. Camaguey, a strategic location in 17th and 18th century colonial wars, has been a unique melting pot in the Caribbean -- enriched with influences from England (via Jamaica) and France (via St. Domingue/Haiti), in addition to the combination of African and Spanish traditions that characterize the Cuban identity. The Terry Family are representative of this cultural diversity -- beginning with the patriarch of the family, "Don Pancho" -- a renown violinist and chekere/guiro player of Jamaican, Spanish and African heritage and a revered figure in Cuban music for decades.

"Don Pancho" came to fame in 1948 as one of the founders of the classic charanga orchestra of Camaguey, “Maravillas de Florida". He passed on his skills to his sons Yosvany and Yunior, who, after absorbing their father's expertise in Cuban popular music and their mother's knowledge of Afro-Haitian folklore, went on to study jazz. Now living in New York City, Yosvany and Yunior Terry commandt his complex array of elements to create an intoxicating cocktail of jazz resonant with the folklore of their Afro-Cuban-Haitian heritage.

His saxophonist son, Yosvany Terry, leads two jazz ensembles, Ye-de-gbe and the Yosvany Terry Quartet, and has performed and toured with a multitude of jazz superstars, including Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Steve Coleman and Eddie Palmieri. Yunior Terry leads the group "Son de Altura" and has performed and tour with Lila Downs, Steve Coleman and Jeff “Tain” Watts. They recorded an album with their father, "Don Pancho y Los Terry -- from Africa to Camaguey" on Roundworld Music.
