Cuba based rap duo, Zona Franka, blends traditional rhythms with the grit and swagger of hip-hop and rap vocal phrasings. Their clever shout choruses create instant tropical dance classics using their unique self-titled "changui con flow" style.

Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, Palo! & Orquesta El Macabeo in the Midwest

Also: Yasek Manzano on The Afro Cuban Jazz Edition

Jane Bunnett & Maqueque, Palo! & Orquesta El Macabeo will all be in the Midwest the weekend of September 4-6, and all are don't-miss acts.  For more information and videos, see the Report From Chicago page.  (Palo! is in Louisville, but it's driveable).  Maqueque's drummer, incidentally, is Yissy Garcia, whose new single Última noticia we just posted recently.

For those of you who are serious fans of Cuban Jazz, The Afro Cuban Jazz Edition has been including music by Cuba's most important Jazz artists along with interviews that yours truly (Bill Tilford) did with some of them in La Habana in May.   Frankie Pineiro, the host, puts together one of the best playlists on the planet, and you'll hear some new and recent Jazz from Cuba that you won't hear in other places, at least not yet.  You'll also be treated to the best Latin Jazz from everywhere else. The most recent guest was  Yasek Manzano, one of the most interesting Jazz artists in Cuba today.  Check out the Facebook Page to learn how to listen on demand; this program is on the front line of what's happening along with enough history to add perspective.
