SFJAZZ is pullng out all the stops for their 2019 Gala which will honor Chucho Valdés with a lifetime achievement award. The main event is a concert with some of the best names in jazz and Afro-Caribbean music including Chucho, Irakere 45, Chucho's children (daughter Leyanis Valdés and son Jesse Valdés), legendary vocalist Omara Portuondo, saxophonist and chékere master Yosvany Terry, Harold López-Nussa, vibraphone master Stefon Harris, famed vocalist Dianne Reeves, SFJAZZ Collective, and other special guests. An after party follows the main event with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans and Jesús Díaz y su QBA great Bay Area timba band performing.
