A great conguero and genuinely nice guy who was a key part of Azúcar Negra when the wonderful arrangements of Andar Andando were put together. He's later joined Adalberto Alvarez y su Son and in 2012 was selected to replace the deceased Manolo Labarrera in Los Van Van. [Kevin Moore]

Yoelito on tumbadoras

I was surprised at the Adalberto Álvarez concert in Gothenburg, Sweden 2005 to see Yoelito playing bongos most of the night. I think he was only on congas for one song. But this gave me an opportunity to see him on another instrument. Without a doubt Yoel is a great percussionist. He was tearing up the bongos throughout the evening. Check out his solo in this video clip. [Michelle White]

Update 2009 - Yoel is no longer with Adalberto Álvarez but we don't know yet where he has gone. [Michelle White]
