¡escúchalo! La gata loca from Mamborama: "Entre el Yuma y la Habana

To hear El Indio sing is one of life's great joys. His tone, intonation, rhythm and phrasing are all effortlessly perfect and he has as much personality and charisma as B.B. King. To top it off, he's one of the best improvisers in Timba. He's sung lead on a string of hits for Manolito: Marcando la distancia, Llegó la música cubana, Para que baile Cuba, Ven ven Sirocco, ven, etc. He also does some great work on the first Los Que Son Son album and many other guest performances such as La rumba soy yo. His most recent recording is Mamborama's "Entre la Habana y el Yuma", including his riveting performance of the hit song La gata loca. While considerered to be among the top few Timba singers, El Indio considers himself a Son singer and his love for traditional music is clear in his solo album, "Espíritu y tradición" produced by Orlando "Maraca" Valles. [Kevin Moore]

In December 2007 El Indio left the Trabuco to start a solo career. His new group is called Son del Indio and they released their first CD, "Lo que sucede conviene",  in 2010
