Pregón del chocolate, arranged by keyboardist Manuel Arranz, is an aggressive track with a blazing fast tempo that reaches 120 bpm and a minor key tonality that’s a change of pace, as most of CH’s early material is in major. It must have been one of the very first tunes written by Issac Delgado, who waited until 2001 to record his own version on a La fórmula. Issac's Grammy-nominated album is state-of-the-art timba in every way, taking full advantage of all the technological and musical progress that's occurred since 1992, but CH's 10-year old version of Pregón del chocolate holds its own amazingly well. Check out the piano montuno at 3:55 and the long series of bloques that are played against it, building to a climax and false ending at 4:24. With uncanny precision the band slows the tempo drastically for just one measure and then surges back to full speed. It’s a remarkable passage that has to be heard to be believed.
