Carlos Averhoff is a brilliant jazz saxophonist who has also figured prominently in Timba. He was a member of Irakere in the 80's at the same time as NG's El Tosco, and he and trumpet Juan Munguía participated in Tosco's "Nueva Generación" projects, which eventually led to "No te compliques", the first NG La Banda recording and the only one featuring Averhoff, who subsequently returned to Irakere, and also did a stint with piano legend Emiliano Salvador.

Having played with the first Timba band, Averhoff later played with what many consider to be among the greatest Timba bands ever assembled -- the Issac Delgado group of '96 and '97 which featured Melón González and Alain Pérez. Averhoff was present during the US tour which included the legendary Central Park performance. His son, Carlos Averhoff, Jr. is now the saxophonist in Issac's band.

Carlos Sr. has been living in Miami for several years now, speaks fluent English and is doing well, recording, playing jazz and teaching.
